Utter Fail [08 Apr 2008|01:01am]

[ music | Dirty Jobs ]

To the people responsible for the large pictures of fetuses on my campus this morning,

Thank you so much for villianizing the Pro-Choice side of the debate. Really, that was totally mature of you. Associating abortion with the holocaust and lynching? Totally brilliant strawman, even though they aren't the same thing at all. You fail at Godwin.

Just so you all know, being Pro-Choice is not about killing all the babies. Honestly, we don't knock on the doors of Pregnant women's houses waving around bloody saws waiting to chop the fetuses' heads off. I know I'm not all about that. In fact, all I ask is at least 3 months. Some find that an acceptable compromise (and no, neither side gets exactly what they want. That's why it's called a compromise.)

Apparently I'm the only person who has had actually talked with people on the opposing side civilly. It is possible, you know, once you get past the fact that the other side does not comprise of baby-killing demons wearing human suits. Honestly, we aren't murderers. We just have a different belief about when life begins.

So it's lovely that there are so many mature, upstanding citizens haunting the college campuses willing to waste their time informing people about the evils of abortion. Thanks guys!

There are some spoilers in this post for AJ 4:4, in case anyone wanders in.

First, I want to say 4:3 SUCKED BALLS! If I ever hear that damned song again it will be too soon. And the murderer frightened me...His hair was looking at me. :(

I was going to go to bed right after finishing, but I can never help peaking at the next case. (This would be why I never get anything done when I buy an Ace Attorney game.) I love the idea of a Jury being a new and innovative idea. Especially since in the first Phoenix Wright game, Juries were removed to help speed up the court process only three years earlier, iirc. This series really tries events together well, and I love the idea of Phoenix being a pioneer in a new system. (Even if he is a gigantic bitch for dropping a case in my lap.)

Real life begins again tomorrow...Sigh.

I got meself some Justice on Friday. Apollo Justice, that is. I'm already on the third case. My BF is probably right when he says I'm going to beat it too quickly, but it's something I always do when I get a new Ace Attorney game. I love these games so much.

Anyways, I'm really liking it so far. Capcom did a great job taking everything that made the original series fun and improving it. AP has even managed to be somehow gayer...I'm still trying to figure out how that happened, but it's true. Every Phoenix Wright fan should give it a try. Apollo is awesomely dorky, so give him a chance before you dismiss the game cause of what happened to Phoenix.

Playing Apollo is a good time cause he does some intense perceiving. The screen goes swirly like it's on an LSD trip and you get a closeup of the witness and you find their nervous habit and PERCEIVE it! It's so much fun, for real. And the game integrates the two screen well, so it's much more engaging than previous PW games.

The story is also pretty fun. I thought the second case was very well done and it tied everything together neatly. However, it seemed much more like an anime what with the ramen noodle stand and the pantie snatcher. The third case was also presented well, and I can't wait to find out where it ends up.

I think this game proves that the Ace Attorney series has yet to jump the shark, and it is refreshing and innovative change. It has already become one of my favorites.

Every time someone says they don't believe in Global Warming, I get so pissed off. Yeah, sometimes I enjoy pretending scientifically proven things don't exist as well. Once I spent an entire week ignoring gravity, that was fun.

I had my wisdom teeth out earlier this week, and I just went back to work today. I have to say, I feel a lot better doing something than sitting around at home, cruising Livejournal. There's only so much one can take of the internet, huh? And it helps that I absolutely love where I work. I wish I could eat food harder than mashed potatoes though.

Merry Christmas Eve, Livejournal!

I didn't sleep a wink last night. I am currently in the service of two housecats who I am watching while their owner is away on vacation. Well, not for much longer now, and I'm gonna miss them once I've gone home.

On the other hand, I am anxious to go home. I miss everyone and I still have all my gifts to wrap.

I'm playing fetch with the one cat now. He's the first cat I've met who will do it (and quite often he does it better than a dog) and it's absolutely adorable. I'm going to miss him.

First thing I do when I get home, I believe, after I get a shower, will be going back to sleep. Or drinking coffee. Or both.

Random Thoughts on T&T [25 Oct 2007|11:11pm]
I got Trials and Tribulations! It is so awesome. And I also got a retarded lookin' little Phoenix key chain. It is love.

In the first trial, Mia kicks ass. Seriously. She destroyed Payne so utterly, I don't think he ever recovers.

"That P on his chest doesn't stand for Phoenix!"

My God, Mia, I love you forever.

In the second trial...the gayness of Luke's bow rivals Edgeworth's cravat. I think the cravat would win in a fight, but it's a close call. And I'm the only one who thinks Ron just might be a Female to Male transvestite? Seriously, I think that would be pretty cool.

Edgeworth is probably going to be an asshole again and not show up until the last case, but that's okay because this game is amazing regardless. I know I'm not going to get any work done until I beat it. :(

As a fan-nerd, I am obligated to make a random blog about Dumbledore being gay. I'll lose my fangirl membership if I don't.

First of all, let me say:

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHA! HAAHAHA! HA!!

And no, not at the fact that Dumbledore is gay, but because people are making such a huge fuss over this! I've seen three major reactions to this:

1. "Oh noes! Gays are infiltrating our children's literature!!"
2. "JK Rowling is doing a wonderful thing by having a well-respecting wizard be gay."
3. "STFU! There was nothing about this in the book and therefore JK is being an anti-gay hypocrite."

Well, first off, from how I took it, this was just JK's opinion. There is nothing about this in the text, and how I see it, you can still interpret it as you like. I can understand how "Well, he's gay," is not an appropriate answer to, "Has he ever been in love." That confused me at first too. But in the end, I just read it as a preface, to explaining his whole tragic love thing. (And she actually state that was unrequited? I got the impression that is was implied. Ah well.)

And I can completely understand why it didn't appear in the book, aside from the fact that it's a kids book. If Dumbledore kept his sexuality hidden, how would anyone reporting the relationship between him and Grindelwald know the whole truth?

I know Rowling didn't handle the situation in the best of ways, but what can you do?

Oh, fandom. You never cease to keep me amused.

HAUNTED BOOK ON TAPE WAS A BAD IDEA [30 Sep 2007|08:51pm]

So, I got Palahnuik's Haunted Book on tape so I can listen to the book while commuting. That was a BAD IDEA. Palahnuik writes some of the most disgusting shit I've ever read, and when reading it, I can easily skim past it. However, when I listen to it, I hear every disgusting detail. My car's CD drive doesn't have fast forward, so I was victim to every line about some poor kid's intestines being pulled out of him by the pool filter. And Palahnuik drags it out. I was swerving all over the road, crying. Sure, I could have gone the easy way and turned it on to the radio, but I'm too curious for my own good. So I switched between the story and the radio. Someday, I will read this book...I just might not be able to listen to it.

You know what? I hate foamy soap. I mean...Honestly, it sucks.

I used to love it. I would go out to restaurants and other various public establishments and I would squee every time I saw the foamy soap. I'd waste a couple of handfuls playing with it...I was as bad as a kid.

But then my parents, who I still live with, got the bright idea of buying the dial foamy soap. Now the specialness is gone. I use foamy soap all the time. It doesn't feel like its working and the pump does not like being pushed down. And when the pump finally does work, the foam flies everywhere! I'm always getting it on my clothes. Bleah, stupid soap.

I tried explaining this to a couple of people, but they just looked at me strangely. I guess they just don't understand the trials of dealing with bad foamy soap.

And to continue in the complaining vein: school sucks. I hardly have any doing-nothing time. My inner fangirl cries. ...Well, my outer one does too, for that matter.

I finally updated my profile. I've been meaning to do that all summer. Not that it's much of an improvement.

I can't believe summer is almost over already. I have so much that I have to do and so much that I haven't done that I may just pass out. Furthermore, all the initiative I had at the beginning of summer has been completely tapped out. All I hope is that being forced back into a schedule will help me be inspired again.

I finally re-watched Perfect Blue. The first time I watched it, I was in High School, and it was a lot creepier than I remembered. Funny thing is, I got a bootleg copy of it when I was in High School that cut off just before the epilogue, so this was the first time I got to see that. And I had completely forgotten the surprise ending, so I was like, "woah," all over again.

I'd write another spiffy review, but my mind is too blown to critique it right now. God that was a freakin messed up movie.

It's funny cause it's true.

I finally finished Chuck Palahniuck's Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey this week, and it's only taken me the entire summer to get through. I've really enjoyed Palahinuck's other books, such as Choke and Invisible Monster, but I have heard that some of his other books are hit or miss. This is the first time I've witnessed a miss book first hand.

Don't get me wrong, some of the ideas behind his book are fantastic, and I'm really glad I did stick it out until the end because the ending was kinda mind blowing. But I really didn't like how it was put together. The idea is that it's supposed to be several people talking about the life of one person, Rant Casey; each giving their own perspective of the story. Only, typically each person gives a single short paragraph before it cuts to another person. I had a hard time keeping up because my brain would always pause and wonder, "Okay, who's this person again?" I know Palahinuck likes jumping around with his prose, but I really would have appreciated it if he focused on on story line/ character at a time for this book.

In general there was a lot going on. The setting was in sort of an alternate dimension and there were people with plugs in their heads and a night time sport called "Party Crashing." There were several chapters dedicated to those phenomena and at the time I was wondering why he was going into so much detail about them.

I think this book would have been a lot better if it were structured differently. I'm not sure if that was the right story for the oral biography style. Usually I love his characters, but this time I didn't feel they were as well developed because there was so much jumping around.

The next Palanhiuk book I'm gonna read is Haunted, and I've heard mixed things about that one so wish me luck!

Hey, I'm posting something and there's no link to Youtube! Woww...

I thought I'd post a quick review for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows because that's what nerds do: Talk about Harry Potter. I was very pleasantly surprised. The last book disappointed me greatly because to me it sounded like Rowling was pulling a lot of shit out of her ass, but this book proved to me that she did indeed have a plan and know where she was going. (Either that, or she's damn good at pulling shit together.)

I've also realized with this book what it is that makes Harry Potter so endearing. Her writing style still is not my favorite, but her characterization is spot on. For example, Harry might be emoing all the time, but it's a realistic emo. I began the book morbidly curious if he would live or die, but I found myself routing for him in this book. I was very happy to see how he matured during the course of the story.

Keep in mind that I haven't reread a Harry Potter book since Half Blood Prince came out, so I'm probably missing out on a lot, but I was glad to see all the stray story lines tied up. (And I was super glad to see Ron and Hermione get together. ^_^) Everyone seems to be freaking out over this Epilogue, and while I wouldn't say it was particularly good writing, I wouldn't say it was terrible either. It ensured that Harry got a happy ending, and I was glad for it.

Someone set up us the bomb [13 Jun 2007|10:17am]
[ mood | chipper ]
[ music | "Andy You're a Star" by the Killers ]

Perhaps the best article about bombs in the universe.

"The plan for a so-called "love bomb" envisaged an aphrodisiac chemical that would provoke widespread homosexual behaviour among troops, causing what the military called a "distasteful but completely non-lethal" blow to morale."

I am at the same time horrified and amused. It's had me giggling all morning, but only because--for moral reasons--there is no chance that a bomb like that would be created. I'm not even sure it's possible, although the military seems to disagree. I'm just not sure if the amusement it gives me is worth the $7.5 million the US Military spent on it.

You know, if fangirls read the newspaper, they would have a field day with this. Just think of all the villains who would use a gay bomb to try to distract the hero with his nimble young sidekick.

All these weapons seem to have come from a James Bond movie. Here are a couple more of my favorites:

'Scientists also reportedly considered a "sting me/attack me" chemical weapon to attract swarms of enraged wasps or angry rats towards enemy troops.'

'In a variation on that idea, researchers pondered a "Who? Me?" bomb, which would simulate flatulence in enemy ranks.'
